Wohnungshelden — Annual Team Alignment & Retrospective
Annual (Jahresendretro)
Why It Worked This case shows that team facilitation isn't just about solving problems — it's about creating rituals that teams value. When facilitation is done well, people actually want to come back.
The Real Outcome An annual ritual that the team actually looks forward to. Strategic clarity and cultural belonging, delivered in one day, every year — booked before the next year begins.
The Challenge
Wohnungshelden GmbH needed an annual ritual that accomplished multiple things at once:
- Strategic reflection — What did we learn this year?
- Team alignment — What are we doing differently next year?
- Culture & belonging — How do we celebrate progress and strengthen our team?
They wanted a year-end retrospective that wasn’t just a meeting, but an event that the team looked forward to.
What We Did
We designed and facilitated a full-day Open Space retrospective combining structured reflection with community building:
Morning:
- Welcome & check-in (energizing, not exhausting)
- Open Space methodology overview
- Marketplace of self-organized sessions
Thematic Sessions:
- Multiple parallel tracks — teams self-organized around topics they cared about
- Deep reflection and dialogue (not just feedback forms)
- Cross-functional participation and learning
Evening:
- Celebration and reflection
- Team building activities (go-kart racing, gaming)
- Informal connection and bonding
Results
- Annual tradition — the team books this every year
- Team clarity — priorities and focus emerge from actual dialogue, not top-down mandate
- High participation — people show up excited, not obligated
- Culture impact — team building happens alongside strategic work
- Scalability — the format works whether team is 20 or 200
